Certain bags are so recognizable that they hold a coveted spot on the list of the most iconic bags of all time. The Louis Vuitton Neverfull is one of these bags. I’d venture to guess many of my fellow bag lovers have owned at least one Neverfull during their handbag journey, and real talk, don’t ever discount this bag!
Though it feels like the Neverfull has forever been part of the handbag world, it was first launched in 2007. For the past 17 years, the Neverfull has evolved with countless renditions, iterations, and even different sizes, all while the basic design of the bag never strays.
A Practical and Usable Tote
Because I’ve been in the bag industry for nearly 20 years, I constantly look for something new and exciting. I love innovation and modern additions. However, I am also very aware that a bag’s first and most important job is to hold things. The Neverfull is made as your go-to daily carry, a bag meant to hold not just a couple of things but all of them. It is important to remember, however simple it may seem, that usability and functionality reign supreme in the bag world.
One of my favorite materials from Louis Vuitton is its Epi leather, and we’ve been really excited about (the return of) this beloved leather. Epi leather is crafted from grained cowhide leather with coinciding microfiber lining. In the case of this bag, the simple but recognizable tote shape and the material used are the defining features.
The interior is unique with its removable pouch, which I know is a seemingly small touch but goes a long way. The pouch can be transferred to other bags, so if you use it for essential items like mine, it is an easy way to switch to another bag.
The interior is open, but a clasp closure and the defining adjustable side laces, which allow you to cinch the silhouette, help add a bit of security.
While I didn’t offer a full review of this bag, I did want to share a pro and con list of one of the most sought-after and notable bags of all time.
Pros
- As a proper tote shape, this bag proves very functional for carrying anything and everything – including a laptop! It makes the bag perfect for travel, a mom bag, or a work bag
- You can cinch the sides of the bag in to provide additional security and change the shape of the bag a bit
- Even with a full-Epi leather body, the Neverfull remains very lightweight
- This bag is easy to clean
- A true workhorse of a bag, this bag is durable and holds up well even with a lot of use
- You can easily see all your items inside
Cons
- Without a zip top, your items are not fully secure from falling out if the bag lays on its side
- There are no interior compartments or organization aside from the removable pouch, so you need to plan to add pouches or buy an organizer if that is important to you
- Though lightweight, if you really fill the bag, it will become heavy (obviously), and the double shoulder straps are thin but can weigh on your shoulder
- If you have owned the bag for a long time, you may want to buy a bag insert to ensure the bottom of the bag holds its shape. With tons of use and heft, the bag may start to slouch over time
A New Design Comes Soon: The Inside Out Neverfull
On September 20th, an exciting addition to the Neverfull family will be released. The Louis Vuitton Inside Out Neverfull, available in BB and MM size, joins the extensive Neverfull family to show that the bag can be updated with a new twist.
As its name suggests, the Inside Out Neverfull is fully reversible, meaning the original inside becomes the outside. The inside pocket, printed with the Louis Vuitton stamp, is an exterior defining detail. Because the lining is adaptable, no matter how often you flip the bag, it will be durable for many uses.
Once released, we will revisit this bag, but I am excited to see a bag that is fun and functional and a true cornerstone timeless design for the Maison.
