With every changing season, Jonathan Anderson sets fashion trends that span across geographical boundaries and time periods. The Loewe Fall 2024 collection, exemplifies such a journey.
Leading up to the runway spectacle, Loewe posted several cryptic hints on social media, ranging from a bundle of porcelain asparagus from the mid-18th century, to a subtly charming oil painting of pink roses from 1980 by the American artist Albert York.
Interestingly, a sneak peek into the collection revealed a beautifully hand-embroidered Squeeze bag designed along the lines of botanical porcelain artifacts from the Chelsea Porcelain Manufactory, England’s renowned porcelain manufacturer.
Intersecting Art and Fashion
The fashion spectacle showcased several art-inspired ensembles, with the Parisian venue transformed into an art museum, adorned with 18 artworks by the American artist Albert York, spanning from 1963 to 1990. The collection holds the distinction of being York’s most extensive exhibition outside America.
York was recognized for his captivating floral landscapes, which Anderson drew inspiration from for this season. The ready-to-wear collection has been transformed, showcasing elaborate beadwork, botanical prints, and Anderson’s signature twist on proportions. Amidst a world of recurring archival designs, Anderson’s ingenuity stands out.
The Evolution of Loewe Bags
The bag collection for Fall 2024 extends from previous lines, featuring updated versions of the Squeeze Bag, Puzzle Fold Tote, and Flamenco Purse. Borrowing from their predecessor, the BTW, the Squeeze bags are decorated with intricate beadwork and come in a variety of prints, from floral landscapes to animal prints; they are indeed pieces of art.
Adding to that artistic direction, Anderson has even mimicked the porcelain asparagus bundle in a beaded bag design, joining an array of boldly colored printed exotics. Both the Squeeze and Flamenco Purse have been revamped for Fall with a distinct exotic flair, with the Flamenco Purse now offered in a larger size.
